Narrator: Abu Sallam (r.a.), servant of the Messenger of Allah

حَدَّثَنَا حَفْصُ بْنُ عُمَرَ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ أَبِي عَقِيلٍ، عَنْ سَابِقِ بْنِ نَاجِيَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَّامٍ، أَنَّهُ كَانَ فِي مَسْجِدِ حِمْصٍ فَمَرَّ بِهِ رَجُلٌ فَقَالُوا: هَذَا خَدَمَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ. فَقَامَ إِلَيْهِ فَقَالَ: حَدِّثْنِي بِحَدِيثٍ سَمِعْتَهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَمْ يَتَدَاوَلْهُ بَيْنَكَ وَبَيْنَهُ الرِّجَالُ. قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «مَنْ قَالَ إِذَا أَصْبَحَ وَإِذَا أَمْسَى: رَضِينَا بِاللَّهِ رَبًّا، وَبِالْإِسْلَامِ دِينًا، وَبِمُحَمَّدٍ رَسُولًا، إِلَّا كَانَ حَقًّا عَلَى اللَّهِ أَنْ يُرْضِيَهُ».
Abu Sallam said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say: “No one says in the morning and in the evening: ‘We are pleased with Allah as Lord, with Islam as religion, and with Muhammad as Messenger,’ but it becomes a due upon Allah to please him.”

Al-Tirmidhi’s route comes from Thawban (r.a.), not Abu Sallam, and its wording is “whoever says in the evening” — evening only.

Acting on a weak report in fada’il al-a‘mal
Imam al-Nawawi writes in al-Adhkar: “The scholars among the hadith specialists, the jurists and others have said: it is permitted and encouraged to act, in matters of merit and of encouragement and warning, upon a weak hadith — so long as it is not fabricated (mawdu‘).” As for rulings such as the lawful and unlawful, sale, marriage and divorce, these may rest only on a sahih or hasan report.
The conditions Ibn ‘Allan states in al-Futuhat al-Rabbaniyya (1/84): (1) the report is neither fabricated nor severely weak; (2) it falls under an established general principle; and (3) when acting on it one does not hold it to be established from the Prophet (peace be upon him), but acts out of precaution.

Notes
Abu Dawud’s wording here is plural (“radina” — we are pleased), unlike the singular “raditu” that is more familiar from dhikr collections.
A differently-worded report exists at Abu Dawud 1529 from Abu Sa‘id al-Khudri (r.a.) (“Paradise becomes due for him”). That is a different hadith, not this Abu Sallam report.
