The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “Whoever says: ‘There is no god but Allah alone, He has no partner; to Him belongs the dominion and to Him belongs all praise, and He has power over all things’ one hundred times in a day, it equals freeing ten slaves, a hundred good deeds are written for him, a hundred bad deeds are erased from him, and it is a shield for him from Satan that day until evening. And no one comes with anything better than what he has brought, except a man who did more than he did.”
Notes
This is the established wording of the tahlil, and its count is one hundred times in a day. Sheikh Redwan’s citation (footnote 114) gives ten times morning and ten times evening via a report of al-Tabarani for which no named ruling has been found.
The rewards Sheikh Redwan mentions — equalling the freeing of ten slaves, and being a shield for the whole day — are indeed in this sound wording, but at a hundred repetitions, not ten.
Note too that the protection is stated as “that day until evening”, that is, one daily cycle.
