Expiation of the gathering

Narrator: Jubayr ibn Mut‘im (r.a.)
رَوَى الطَّبَرَانِيُّ عَنْ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ مُطْعِمٍ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «مَنْ قَالَ: سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ، سُبْحَانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِكَ، أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ، أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ، فَقَالَهَا فِي مَجْلِسِ ذِكْرٍ كَانَ كَالطَّابَعِ يُطْبَعُ عَلَيْهِ، وَمَنْ قَالَهَا فِي مَجْلِسِ لَغْوٍ كَانَتْ كَفَّارَةً لَهُ».
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “Whoever says: ‘Glory be to Allah and praise be to Him. Glory be to You, O Allah, and praise be to You; I bear witness that there is no god but You; I seek Your forgiveness and I turn to You in repentance’ — and says it in a gathering of remembrance, it is like a seal stamped upon it; and whoever says it in a gathering of idle talk, it is an expiation for him.”
